Advantages of LEDs

They save energy.

The luminous intensity of a light emitting diode a with beam angle of 20° is comparable to a 20 Watts bulb, although the power consumption amounts to only a fraction. The luminous efficiency - i.e. the relationship between light-current and power consumption - is about twice as high with LEDs as high with halogen lamps and more than three times as high compared with general lighting service lamps. This applies in particular to colored LEDs, since the colors are original and are not produced by filters as with bulbs. Thus, a solar plant of 75 Watts for example is sufficient to operate enough LuzLicht lamps to illuminate 8 rooms of a mountain hut in Davos/Switzerland.

They are insensitive in relation to vibrations.

Contrary to conventional shining means, with which thin metallic spirals are made to glow, the light generation of LEDs is based on electrical luminescence. There are no mobile parts (anode and cathode are firmly cast in) and no thermal pollution. This makes light emitting diodes interesting for the employment on ships, in motor vehicles, bicycles, flashlights etc., thus for tasks involving vibrations but not allowing higher temperatures.

They have a very high life span*.

With 50,000 hours, i.e. nearly 6 years, the life span of light emitting diodes is about 25 times higher than of glowing or halogen bulbs.

They can be dimmed by pulse code modulation and be addressed by analog or digital light control scenes.

* The life span with LEDS is defined as the reduction of the brightness to 50% of the initial value. Dependent on the light color the life span can vary.
